You can’t make me
say any certain words
feel any certain feelings
think any certain thoughts
look any certain style
act any certain way
be any certain woman
You can
criticize
cajole
critique
advise
intimidate
mock
“help”
but still
You can’t
make me
anything.
I choose
my actions
reactions
I choose
to know
who I am
separate from
who you think
I am
instead
connected to
who God thinks
I am
I enjoy the form of this piece and think it lends insight into the speakers train of thought thus making the poem all the more better. Why is it right justified though? Well done “Know my worth,” I’ll be looking for more poetry.

Thank you Darrian! I suppose my work isn’t technically “poetry” as I don’t follow any particular form; I call it that though as it does flow more in stream of consciousness than in complete sentences. The right justification is just for fun, a visual oddity for the eye. I am glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

I like this very much. What matters is who God wants us to be 🙂

It’s hard to stay focused on that sometimes… Thanks, Bonnie!

I love the sentiments expressed here. No one can make anybody anything. We have power over who we are as an individual. This piece calls us to remember that. Bravo!
